Dr. Asch in the Wild

  • Dr. Asch headshot Style

This is me too. Like everyone, I am still the same person on the inside, regardless of what I look like this week.

  • Dr. Asch doing teledermatology (with purple hair)

I have been having fun with my hair color (since so much of it is gray) and there are so many people wearing fun colors these days. Purple, blue - you never know what you will see when you get to your appointment.

  • Dr. Asch has a fun electric car.

I wanted to get a big dinosaur for my front yard…but, the neighbors probably appreciate this more. AND, I can take this one everywhere I go!

  • Dr. Asch as a butterfly.

I like to go fun places, including a walk around the lake, driving around the U.S. and sometimes I have even been to other countries! I like to get to know where ever I am. I do love a good roadside attraction.

  • Dr. Asch's family

I am married to my husband, Evan, who I met in college. We have two kids (now teenage years/off to college). We have had mostly cats and dogs, but I did have a hamster in college. We live near the Twin Cities in Minnesota.

I like to read books and watch TV. I walk my dogs, cross country ski (just learning to skate ski), ride my e-bike and sit on my deck or my living room and look at nature.

  • Dr. Asch loves the MN State Fair!

We love the Fair and go often! We even got a bench with “Asch” on it for my parents 50th wedding anniversary. The love of the Fair runs in the family.

  • Dr. Asch enjoys (but is not good at) Nordic skiing

I highly recommend a MN State Ski Pass if you like cross country skiing. Our state parks have many nicely groomed trails through beautiful places.

  • Credentials (how did I get here?)

I may crack jokes, play with babies and make silly faces with my patients - and this is all the JOY of caring for children and teens. But, I don’t let that hide the fact that I take my medical knowledge very seriously. I moved all over the country to get top-notch training, and I work hard to keep that training up to date with state of the art knowledge.

I went to Temple University in Philadelphia for 4 years of medical school, where I earned my MD (Medical Doctor) degree (2005-2009).

After that, I went to the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh for a 3 year residency (like an apprenticeship) in Pediatrics. That’s where doctors take care only of kids and teenagers. (2009-2012).

After THAT, I moved to San Francisco to the University of California San Francisco (UCSF) for a 3 year Dermatology residency. That’s how doctors learn to become experts in skin disease (2012-2015).

And THEN, I moved back to Minnesota, and spent ANOTHER 1 year at Mayo Clinic in Rochester for a fellowship (still like an apprenticeship) in Pediatric Dermatology. That’s for skin doctors who want to know the most about taking care of kids with special skin problems(2015-2016).

Between college (Grinnell College ‘99) and medical school, I got a Masters degree in Immunology at UMN (3 years), and worked at 3M.
